What the Catholic Church Teaches Regarding Capital Punishment

By Penny Hoffmann

Capital punishment is a controversial ethical issue and has been for a long time. In Australia, there has been a recent ressurection of the desire to have the death penalty, and in response Catholic organisations in Australia and worldwide have a history of speaking in private and public arenas concerning this ethical issue. But what is an ethical issue, and what are the guiding principles that inform the Catholic perspective?

Ethics shape one’s values and are what people strive to believe in and put into practice in their everyday lives.

The Catholic Church’s values are shaped by the ethical teachings present in the Bible and authoritative texts and figures. A main ethical concept of the Catholic Church is the Consistent Ethic of Life, which can be explained by Jesus’ “Seemless Garment” where one can not be partly pro life, but instead fully pro-life for every ethical issue where life is relative.

The Consistent Ethic of Life is seen through the Church’s Principles of Catholic Social Teaching which include the Dignity of the Human Person, the Stewardship of Creation, Preferential Option for the Poor, the Common Good, Solidarity, and others. These guiding principles inform the Catholic perspective on ethical issues.

The Principles of Catholic Social Teaching that are applicable to the Church’s teachings on capital punishment include the Dignity of the Human Person and the Common Good. Regardless of age, sex, gender, crime, or anything else, one does not lose their dignity.

Branching from these Principles, other remonstrations that form the Church’s stance on capital punishment include that the death penalty does not allow time for people to repent, there may be judicial errors where someone who is innocent is sentenced to the death penalty, it is not a useful deterrent because criminals may assume that they will not be caught, there have been countless studies that prove that capital punishment is ineffective, and that capital punishment is done by humans instead of God.

Despite the Catholic Church’s teachings, there is still support within the Catholic community for capital punishment:

“Tiniest of cracks were used by Catholic death penalty advocates from Nebraska to the Philippines to claim that the church was not against it”.

The Catholic Church has undergone most of its change concerning the teachings on capital punishment over the last fifty years. For centuries, “the Church has allowed the death penalty for extreme cases”. However, Catholic authoritative figures such as Popes have declared that these extreme cases are so rare that there may as well be none and that there need not be support for it, and that “tiniest of cracks were used by Catholic death penalty advocates from Nebraska to the Philippines to claim that the church was not against it”.

According to the new teaching in the universal Catechism:

“The Church teaches, in the light of the Gospel, that the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the Inviolability and Dignity of the Person and she works with determination for its abolition worldwide”.

According to an ABC news article published in August last year, in an accompanying letter that explained the amended stance, the head of the Vatican’s doctrine office stated that the Church’s position on capital punishment was an evolution of prior teaching and that it did not contradict past teachings.

An argument that is commonly used by those who do not find the dignity of a human person important is that criminals who murder do not display that they find the dignity of their victims important, so this cancels out their own life.

There are some situations and contexts which make following the Catholic teachings regarding capital punishment challenging to follow. An example is witnessing a criminal have no remorse for the most serious crimes such as murder. The church responds with teachings that these criminals may repent in the future and that God delivers justice to all.

In a secular world, the Catholic Church provides effective guidance regarding their teachings on capital punishment due to their presence in as many platforms as they can to promote Catholic teachings. These platforms include, but are not limited to, church, protests, blogs, social media, and the news.

Chemtrails, Operation Snow White, Operation Mockingbird, Operation Midnight Climax, Watergate, and Project Montauk

Operation Midnight Climax

Operation Midnight Climax is a CIA program where U.S citizens were victims of psychotropic drug testing and experimental torture in order for the CIA to develop mind control and interrogation techniques. The project began in the 1950’s and was a response to Soviets trying to develop the same mind control tools. The CIA admitted that their Director, Richard Helms, destroyed nearly all MKUltra evidence in 1973.

Operation Mockingbird

Operation Mockingbird is a scandal where the CIA employed and compensated journalists at media companies who, in return, collected information from and disseminated information to the public via news coverage. Reportedly, the CIA did this because journalists had access to places where the CIA could not enter.

Watergate

Watergate is a U.S scandal that resulted in the resignation of at-the-time President Richard Nixon. The plan by the Committee for the Re-election of the President (CRP) was to infiltrate the Democratic National Committee (DNC) offices of the Watergate Hotel and steal documents and the like in order to win the election. The burglars were caught the second time they broke in. Watergate is about the cover-up, not the burglary. Nixon had tapes which were requested by the courts, but he refused to hand them over, citing executive privilege. The tapes were checked and released in 1974. An 18-minute erased section and the revelation that some involved in the break in had received compensation for their work raised suspicions. The “smoking gun” tape revealed that Nixon knew about the cover-ups since mid-1972. Nixon was then forced to step down or face impeachment. He chose to resign.

Operation Snow White

In 1966, the Church of Scientology infiltrated the U.S government in an attempt to protect the interests of Scientology by finding and purging government information relating to their church or the founder, El Ron Hubbard. Up to 5,000 operatives infiltrated up to 130 branches of the U.S government over the next decade. Then the Church of Scientology successfully sued and harmed the reputation of the IRS for not recognizing Scientology as a religion and not giving them a tax-exempt status.

Chemtrails

Chemtrails are the white tails behind planes. Ut is suggested by some that they are government-planted mind-control spray chemicals that are expelled to fall onto the public. Two main theories that conspiracy theorists believe is evidence are the long-lasting trails and the analysis of water and soil that would absorb the chemicals as they fall to the ground.

Project Montauk

Project Montauk began in 1943 when the destroyer U.S.S. Eldridge traveled through space and time in a top secret US government invisibility project to foil radar. This is known as the “Philadelphia Experiment”. When the destroyer returned, many of the sailors were damaged physically and mentally. Dr Neumann, a mathematical genius and inventor of the modern computer, continued the Philadelphia Experiment to find out why inter-dimensional travel for humans is harmful to them. Brookhaven National Laboratories, located on Long Island, became his base. To finance his work, he was sponsored by the Military Industrial and Congressional Complex. He also had access to an advanced database of Nazi psychological research. Neumann created a virtual mind reading machine that allowed psychics to implant thoughts to control them. The project ended in 1983.

Virginian Perennial Candidate Nathan Larson is Pro Incest, Rape and Pedophillia?

By Penny Hoffmann

37-year-old accountant Nathan Larson is running for U.S Virginian Congress. What really makes him stand out from many candidates is what Mr. Larson and organisations have been saying about him.

According to the Washington Post, “He’s pro-incest, pedophilia, and rape. He’s also running for Congress from his parents’ house”; according to News.com, “HE’S a self-described white supremacist and paedophile who once plotted to kill a US president. Now, he’s running for congress”; and according to The Independent, “A paedophile and a Holocaust denier are running for US Congress, but it may not be time to raise the alarms just yet”.

According to an October 2009 press release by the Colorado United States Attorney’s Office, in December 2008, Larson sent emails to the U.S Secret Service threatening to kill the President :

“I am writing to inform you that in the near future, I will kill the president of the United States of America.”

During his 2017 Office campaign Larson labelled himself a “red pill Libertarian”, but was disavowed from the Libertarian Party for his anti-feminist and pro child pornography and marijuana views.
According to the Huffington Post, Larson created Suiped.org, Incelocalypse.today which acted as chat rooms for pedophiles and “violence-minded misogynists”.
According to Huffington Post writers Andy Campbell and Jesselyn Cook, Larson admitted to being part-pedophile, part-writer-about-pedophillia”:
‘When asked whether he’s a pedophile or just writes about pedophilia, he said, “It’s a mix of both. When people go over the top there’s a grain of truth to what they say.”’
According to a Haaretz article written by Omer Benjakob:
“On the libertarian RationalWiki, for example, as a user called Tisane, he edited extensively from 2010 to 2012, contributing to the articles on rape, Holocaust denial and even the North American Man/Boy Love Association. But after defending pro-pedophilia positions, he was banned from there, too. “Why create a child sexual abuse article and then only allow one side of the argument to be presented?” his user protested during a debate on the laissez-faire wiki.”

PINE GAP: The U.S Intelligence Facility in Australia

By Penny Hoffmann

Pine Gap is a U.S intelligence facility based in Alice Springs, Australia. It is located in the centre of Australia to make foreign interceptions difficult. It is most-likely the most important CIA intelligence collection station globally.

australia_map.jpg
PINE GAP: located in Central Australia.

According to the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainability, Pine Gap plays a “vital role in the collection of a very wide range of signals intelligence, providing early warning ballistic missile launches, targetting of nuclear weapons, providing battlefield intelligence data for United States armed forces operating in Afghanistan and elsewhere (including previously in Iraq), critically supporting United States and Japanese missile defence, supporting arms control verification, and contributing targetting data to United States drone attacks”.

Pine Gap has three surveillance systems: fundamentally it is “the ground control station for geosynchronous signals intelligence (SIGINT) satellites developed by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency”, but it also serves as a Relay Ground Station (RGS) which sends information regarding “U.S. missile launch detection/early warning satellites/Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR)” to U.S and Australian H.Q’s and command centres. Thirdly, Pine Gap has a foreign satelite and communications satelite interception function.

Pine Gap was first established by the United States in 1966 and became operational in 1970. The original mission was to collect information on the testing of Soviet missiles:

“During missile tests, information on the performance of various parts of the missile in flight is sent by radio signal to the test base. U.S. satellites in geo-stationary orbit sitting above the earth intercepted this missile telemetry, and downlinked the data to Pine Gap and other ground stations. That data was then processed into usable signals intelligence about the performance and capacities of new Soviet missiles.”

Pine Gap still collects information regarding foreign missile testing in places such as North Korea.

Pine Gap has undergone dramatic technological development:

“This has provided the technical basis for Pine Gap to provide data enabling the targeting of illegal U.S. drone attacks in countries with which the United States nor Australia are at war, including Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.”

PROOF: Democrats are working with social media companies to try and harm the 2020 Trump re-election and the Conservative and Alt-Right movement

By Penny Hoffmann

In a paper classed as private and confidential, titled “Democracy Matters: Strategic Plan For Action”, Media Matters, American Bridge, CREW, and Shareblue are all actively fighting against right-wing misinformation, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Google have agreed to be their allies.

In the document, the current hurdles for the goal are highlighted. An analysis of their opposition, what Shareblue and their associates have already accomplished to get to this goal, and what is promised for the future are detailed. Their mission began in 2017 and will last for four years, up until Trump runs for presidency again in 2020.

The document even highlighted how they got Facebook to support their plans:

“During the 2016 election, Facebook refused to do anything about the dangerous rise of fake news or even acknowledge their role in promoting disinformation: Mark Zuckerberg called the notion that fake news is a problem “crazy”. In November, we launched a campaign pressuring Facebook to: 1) acknowledge the problem of the proliferation of fake news on Facebook and its consequences for our democracy and 2) commit to taking action to fix the problem. As a result of our push for accountability, Zuckerberg did both. Our campaign was covered by prominent national political, business, and tech media outlets, and we’ve been engaging with Facebook leadership behind the scenes to share our expertise and offer input on developing meaningful solutions.”

This is what Media Matters and their associates have already accomplished:

“Media Matters has already secured access to raw data from Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. We have also put in place the technology neccessary to automatically mine white nationalist message boards and alt-right communities for our archive. We will now develop technologies and processes to systematically monitor and analyze this unfiltered data.”

“Our digital efforts were largely focused on changing the narrative with the traditional media versus voters. This worked to a point but wasn’t enough in the face of a news media incentivised by profit and access and fearful of intimidation and bullying by the Trump forces.”

“In 2016, a full two-thirds of Facebook users used the platform to get news. Facebook’s algorithm fuels confirmation bias by feeding content from outlets that tell the users what they want to hear. Fake news purveyors exploited this vulnerability. Fake news purveyors exploited this vulnerability for profit and political influence.”

The paper also provided a “competitive analysis” whereby their rivals and the threats they pose were highlighted. Their competition is right-wing media, but more specifically: the Conservative Media Research Center, Breitbart, Steve Bannon, and Donald Trump (obviously) and his Trump TV.

Here is what the paper said about Breitbart, for example:

“Breitbart, which has received millions in funding from extremest billionaires close to the Trump administration, provides a nexus point in the so-called alt-right (the newest branding for American white nationalism, anti-Semitism, and misogyny) to exploit vulnerabilities throughout the media landscape. With a powerful ally in the White House (former chief executive Steve Bannon will be Trump’s chief strategist), Breitbart plans to export its brand of anti-establishment racism on a global scale.”

Media Matters lists what their top outcomes are and what they will “focus on achieving” in the next four years, which began in 2017:

“In the next four years, Media Matters will continue its core mission of disarming right-wing misinformation, while leading the fight against the next generation of conservative disinformation: The proliferation of fake news and propaganda now threatening the country’s information ecosystem.”

“- Serial misinformers and right-wing propagandists inhabiting everything from social media to the highest levels of government will be exposed, discredited. Journalists, activists, allies, politicians, and the general public will routinely utilize and weaponize our research products to understand and take action against the changing media ecosystem and the extremists seeking to manipulate it. We will continue to break engagement records and dramatically expand and diversify our reach by presenting our research in multiple formats on a variety of platforms. Key right-wing targets will see their influence diminish as a result of our work.

– Internet and social media platforms, like Google and Facebook, will no longer uncritically and without consequence host and enrich fake news sites and propagandists. Social media companies will engage with us over their promotion of the fake news industry. Facebook will adjust its model to stem the flow of damaging fake news on its platform’s pages. Google will cut off these pages’ accompanying sites’ access to revenue by pulling their access to Google’s ad platform.

– Toxic alt-right social media-fueled harassment campaigns that silence dissent and poison our national discourse will be punished and halted. Hundreds and thousands of activists will join our campaigns to push back on alt-right harassment. Key alt-right figures will lose credibility and influence in response to our research and pressure.”

American Bridge, a participant for this plan, is given orders that aim to make it “the epicenter of Democrats’ work to regain power”. It has three goals that will be in favor of the Democrats:

“American Bridge will cement itself as the standard-bearer of opposition research, build on its role as a progressive clearinghouse for information that drives the narrative on Republican officeholders and candidates, and be at the epicenter of Democrats’ work to regain power – starting in 2017 and building to 2020. Here’s what success will look like:

– Trump will be defeated either through impeachment or at the ballot box in 2020.

– The balance of power will shift back to democrats. We will measurably impact US Senate, gubernatorial, and state legislative races.

– We will free ourselves from solely relying on the press. Our robust digital program will reach voters directly online.”

CREW is another participant in the plan to get Trump out of office. Crew has four goals that will aid in doing so:

“CREW will be the leading nonpartisan ethics watchdog group in a period of crisis with a president and administration that present possible conflicts of interest and ethical problems on an unprecedented scale. CREW will demand ethical conduct from the administration and all parts of government, expose improper influence from powerful interests, and ensure accountability when the administration and others shirk ethical standards, rules, and laws.
Here’s what success will look like:

– Trump will be afflicted by a steady flow of damaging information, new revelations, and an inability to avoid conflicts issues.

– The Trump administration will be forced to defend illegal conduct in court.

– Powerful industries and interest groups will see their influence wane.

– Dark money will be a political liability in key states.”

Shareblue, another participant, is planning to replace Conservative influence on social media with influence from Democrats instead. They plan to harm Trump’s presidency by “emboldening the opposition and empowering the majority of Americans who oppose him”. Shareblue has five goals in order to aid Media Matters’ plan:

“- Shareblue will become the de facto news outlet for opposition leaders and the grassroots.

– Trump allies will be forced to step down or change course due to news published by Shareblue.

– Under pressure from Shareblue, Democrats will take more aggressive positions against Trump.

– Shareblue will achieve financial stability while diversifying content offerings and platforms.

– Top editorial and writing talent will leave competitors to join Shareblue.”

Media Matters is against “even the slightest bit of normalization of Trump”. Funnily enough, Media Matters plans to resist Trump’s authoritarianism by utilizing authoritarianism themselves by means of, for example, collaborating with social platforms in order to remove what they deem as “fake news”. Thus, authoritarianism, in their eyes, is fine if they themselves do it:

“We are going to fight for the things in which we believe, and we are going to fight against any attempt to erode the cornerstone work and values of the progressive movement and this pluralistic nation… Media Matters will be vigilant in holding news media accountable for even the slightest bit of normalization of Trump. We will encourage journalists to defend standard practices, like the protective press pool and media credentialing, and strive for higher standards against this threat… we are going to resist the normalization of Donald Trump. His every conflict of interest, his every bit of cronyism, his every move towards authoritarianism, his every subversion of our democratic systems and principles, his every radical departure from foreign and domestic policy norms… we are going to contest every effort, at every level of government, to limit rights, rescind protections, entrench inequality, redistribute wealth upwards, or in any other way fundamentally undermine the tenets of egalitarianism that must serve as the bedrock of our democracy.”

Predictive technology, collaborating with social media platforms, omnichannel communications, and a massive grassroots truth squad are all methods Media Matters will use to monitor fake news. Predictive technology will allow individuals and outlets who participate in fake news, misinformation, and harassment, to be identified by Media Matters.

Here is what content Media Matters also corrects:

“Media Matters’ issue teams are focused on correcting misinformation on: gun violence and public safety, LGBT equality, reproductive health and gender equality, climate and energy, and economic policy.”

FAKE NEWS: An In-Depth Analysis of the Role of the Media and it’s Corruption

By Penny Hoffmann

The media has a huge responsibility as they shape public opinion and affects history. By reporting on or ignoring events, the media contributes to the historical record. Fake news can lead to uprisings that may not even be necessary because the problem doesn’t exist.

In the words of famous author George Orwell in his novel 1984:

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

Sadly, many are unaware as to how the media works. Critical thinking in relation to the media, particularly in terms of how information is collected and reported on, needs to be encouraged.

In historian Louis Gottschalk’s book titled “Understanding History”, the information collection process is explained:

“Only a part of what was observed in the past has been remembered by those who observed it; only a part of what was remembered was recorded; only a part of what was recorded has survived; only a part of what has survived has come to the historian’s attention; only a part of what has come to their attention is credible; only a part of what is credible has been grasped; and only a part of what has been grasped can be expounded or narrated by the author.”

Prerecorded interviews have many advantages that mostly benefit the media. Editing quotes in interviews makes news reporting flow better and makes those involved look better, but nonetheless it manipulates what people have said. Important points can be left out.

An example of the media editing quotes via prerecorded interviews includes Isaac Butterfield’s interview on The Project in New Zealand.

Isaac Butterfield, an Australian YouTuber and comedian, featured on The Project New Zealand after Facebook took down his video, ‘The Actual Difference Between Australia and New Zealand’, because it was deemed to be racist.

In the interview, Isaac mentions the comedic nature of his video:

“These were polite jabs at the beautiful country of New Zealand.”

One of the hosts tried to dramatize Butterfield’s original video by asking if his content is suitable for his seven-year-old daughter:

“Do you target a specific audience, Isaac? I mean, do you worry who sees the videos? Would it be suitable for my seven-year-old daughter for instance?”

This was Butterfield’s response:

“Ah certainly not. But you as a parent should be in control of what your seven-year-old is watching. There’s far worse things on the internet than poor bearded old me.”

Isaac, in his YouTube video response, discussed the problem with prerecorded interviews; the footage can be edited to make the hosts and anyone the media likes have a better reputation:

“Now you may be wondering… that lady called me a jerk and i just said ‘thanks guys’ and smiled politely. That’s not how it actually happened, that’s an edit. I did hit her back with something, some type of joke, i can’t remember. I should have recorded it just for these type of purposes but, this is the thing with TV, is that they can edit it to make them look fantastic.”

Butterfield also discussed speaking time limits and how they do not capture the interviewee’s full view:

“So there’s a few things that annoyed me about that, was the way they spoke about me when i was off there and didn’t actually let me speak my mind on those certain subjects. Only having a minute and thirty seconds to get my point across… that’s just never going to happen.”

Before these interview even occur, those involved are told what they can and can’t say.

an Australian YouTuber known as “FriendlyJordies”, political commentator and comedian, called out the mainstream media and corporations masquerading as media for making irrelevant jokes and dodging important situations that nations face.

“You know what the media doesn’t do a lot of reporting on? Things that matter. Things that could affect, to quote that German Springfield historian, “you and your children and your children’s children.”

Newspaper journalism is also clearly not exempt from editing. During interviews, notes are either recorded via audio or a notepad. Newspapers are usually heavily structured in terms of the placement of photos, the word limit for the title, byline and general information, for aesthetic purposes. Editors review the articles that their journalists write and make the final alterations before publishing occurs.

To elaborate further, photos are placed in a sequence in order to prevent your eyes from running off the page. Poses by the interviewees for photos (smiles, handshakes, positioning of flags), camera angle, tweaking of photos via Photoshop for example, and choice of background all usually suit the desires of the writer and editor.

It is important to recognize corruption in the media because of it’s important role it has in regards to the historical record. It is usually difficult for beginner journalists to get media jobs, and, because of this, job seekers will sometimes do anything just to have some experience. This means that they can be subject to fraud.

In Queensland, the Federal Circuit Court ordered Touchpoint Media to pay $570,000 as they underpaid twenty three journalists.

Judge Tony Young stated this in his judgement:

“I am satisfied that there was an element of exploitation involved with young employees that would have been less likely to occur with older or more experienced employees.”

Some media companies may not even feature work experience journalists when it comes to photo credit or article drafting, so the author of the article could be the journalist who worked with the work experience student.

The media can be restricted in terms of what they can report on by the government. People who work for the government can even infiltrate the media. People from intelligence agencies have, in the past, employed journalists to collect information from media companies, and sometimes even disseminate misinformation to lead the public astray. This has happened in the US, for example (Operation Mockingbird) where reportedly three dozen American newsmen were either on the payroll or worked in some sort of contract relationship with the CIA beginning from 1973.

On April 27, 1996, the former CIA director who reported on this, William Colby, was found dead in the water after a canoe trip at Rock Point, Maryland. His death was reportedly “accidental”.

The media can even have a really important topic to discuss but not realize its importance by asking interviewees irrelevant questions. For example, Australian Labor politician Bill Shorten’s interview on The Project Australia.

Throughout the interview, Shorten was bringing up serious points, such as this one:

“What people want from me, and what people want from politics in general, is focus on policies that help everyday people.”

But what did one host respond with?

“But, hypothetically, would you think of putting heat lamps in the bathroom?”

Shorten only had less than three minutes to discuss how he is “trying to work out how to avoid another big wipeout, after the Liberals were crushed at the Victorian state election”. Why does irrelevant nonsense need to cut his time to speak? He has an important role as a politician; he helps to run the nation of Australia.

Here is another example of Shorten being asked useless questions during the interview:

Shorten: “Tell you what, the numbers on me were the same before the state election as they are now. But we’re doing pretty well. We’re doing well because we focus on people. More and more i’ve decided between now and the election, talk less about the government and more about the people. People just want us to get on with our jobs, and when your kids can’t get an apprenticeship, or your kids in their twenties and thirties are trying to buy their first home and they haven’t got enough for the deposit because the price of housing is high-”

Female host: “What about the'”

Shorten: “That’s what people are worried about, right?”

Female host: “Mr Shorten, well, what about your sausage eating style? Could that play into it? I mean…”

Some, maybe most or all mainstream media companies have access to police radio transmissions. This is to hear live events such as accidents, which is why the media knows where to arrive in order to cover them. The media is allowed to access this audio to check if emergency services are doing their jobs properly, but also to cover crimes done by the public.

There is a large problem with sponsor-media relations in regards to advertising. Sponsors pay media companies if their products are promoted via advertisement sections in newspapers, on the radio, and in television programs. The media benefits from it’s sponsors because they are their only source of income.

YouTuber FriendlyJordies called out Buzzfeed for not reporting on their own sponsor, Streets Icecream, cutting staff wages:

“When earlier this year Streets Icecream attempted to halve it’s staffs wages, which, thanks to the Liberal party is like chicks dying their hair pastel colours, what happened to the workers at Street’s Icecream could now happen to anyone on the wage, and Buzzfeed refused to report on it because Street’s Icecream sponsors Buzzfeed.”

When showing an article titled “Buzzfeed Crew Shocked to Discover They Have Testosterone Level of a 12-Year-Old Boy (Video)”, FriendlyJordies exposes the corruption mentioned above that many media organisations are guilty of doing, by responding with this:

“Think about how amoral these testosterone-deprived gollums must be when they willingly and consistently withhold information of that magnitude from their readers for money.”

This leads to the following question: who owns the media? The owners are not journalists themselves, or the editors who edit the articles, but rather sponsors who have the power to affect what is reported on via capitalism. Other than sponsors, the law also regulates what the media can and can’t do, but if media companies are subject to corporate powers such as the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA), they are protected more.

Rupert Murdoch is an American-Australian media mogul. As the CEO of News Corp, Murdoch controls a media empire comprised of Fox News, The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. These are just some of the many media companies.

Insect Spy Drones? Revolutionary Technology is being created by the CIA and Other Groups

By Penny Hoffmann

In the 1970’s, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) created a spy drone called the Inectothopter that looks like a dragonfly.

These insect spy drones are used as surveillance technology that is disguised as everyday bugs and are that small that there is very small suspicion as to what their purpose is.

In an interview with the British Daily Mail, Zoologist Richard Bomphrey explains how flying creatures such as insects have been studied in order to understand how insect wings have have evolved to endure tough conditions. From studying this, important lessons can be learned:

“By learning those lessons, our findings will make it possible to aerodynamically engineer a new breed of surveillance vehicles that, because they are as small as insects and also fly like them, completely blend into their surroundings.”

Drones that look like other animals, such as a hawk, are also in existence and being created.

In 2007, the U.S military was accused of having insect spy technology when U.S anti-war protesters saw these drones flying above them. Government agencies at the time generally did not admit to having this technology, but some official and private organisations did admit to it.

Then, in 2008, the U.S military showed these inventions that are as “tiny as bumblebees” and were used to discretely “photograph, record, and even attack insurgents and terrorists.”

Whenever the military makes something public, it’s existence is usually decades old.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is reportedly planning to create laser weapons though The Excalibur Program, nanobots in the human body to monitor one’s health, cyborg technology where implants and improvements reliably connect to the human central nervous system via DARPA’s Reliable Neural-Interface Technology (RE-NET) program, Micro-technology for Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (MICRO-PNT) program  where GPS systems continue to work after losing signal, and other technology such as a gamma-ray laser called the Ultrabeam.

Academia is facing severe problems

By Penny Hoffmann

When we think of academia, we would like to believe that it is completely factual as much of the findings from academia are eventually opened for public view. However, academia, just like other organisations, faces its own problems.

Richard Dawkins, a well-known evolutionary biologist who is particularly famous for his commentaries on religion, states in his famous book “The Selfish Gene” that students and colleagues may be the backbone for building the reputation of senior scientists:

“I recently learned a disagreeable fact: there are influential scientists in the habit of putting their names to publications in whose composition they have played no part. Apparently some senior scientists claim joint authorship of a paper when all they have contributed is bench space, grant money and an editorial read-through of the manuscript. For all i know, entire scientific reputations may have been built on the work of students and colleagues!”

According to a research article titled “The natural selection of bad science”, authored by Paul E. Smaldino and Richard McElreath, misuse of procedures and methods remain both common and normative. The remainder of quotes are from the research article:

“In March 2016, the American Statistical Association published a set of corrective guidelines about the use and misuse of p-values. Statisticians have been publishing guidelines of this kind for decades. Beyond mere significance testing, research design in general has a history of shortcomings and repeated corrective guidelines. Yet misuse of statistical procedures and poor methods has persisted and possibly grown. In fields such as psychology, neuroscience and medicine, practices that increase false discoveries remain not only common, but normative.”

Many prominent UK researchers suggest that there is an increase in “fatal errors and retractions” in “as much as half of the scientific literature… especially of prominent publications”:

“In April 2015, members of the UK’s science establishment attended a closed-door symposium on the reliability of biomedical research. The symposium focused on the contemporary crisis of faith in research. Many prominent researchers believe that as much as half of the scientific literature—not only in medicine, by also in psychology and other fields—may be wrong. Fatal errors and retractions, especially of prominent publications, are increasing.”

Additionally, governments can intervene the production of papers by means of adding or redacting findings, contributor names, and so on, in order to suit an agenda. Academic publications can be affected by the politics of the scientist’s location. For example, papers may be publicly inaccessible in a nation because the contents threaten propaganda that is used to control the public’s perceptions.

Institutional incentives tend to favor poor research methods and abuse of statistical procedures:

“When researchers are rewarded primarily for publishing, then habits which promote publication are naturally selected.”

When in a competitive industry such as science in academia, praise from professors and the like is often sought after. Thus, because of human error, publishing as many findings as possible and simultaneously being accurate can be a difficult balance to maintain:

“‘Scientists are human and will therefore respond (consciously or unconsciously) to incentives; when personal success (e.g. promotion) is associated with the quality and (critically) the quantity of publications produced, it makes more sense to use finite resources to generate as many publications as possible’.”

Frederik Anseel, a professor at King’s College London, states that “there is probably a serious problem with mental health in academia” and that it “probably has something to do with how academia is organized as an industry, how we train people, how we manage people, and how careers develop”. The overly competitive field, deadlines and isolation in terms of social lives would have some bearing on the mental health of people in academia.

In a ScienceMag article, Arnav Chhabra, a grad student at Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, details the difficulty of maintaining a healthy balance of a personal and work life:

“In my third year of grad school, everything seemed to fall apart. I was dealing with my grandmother’s death, and then my girlfriend and I broke up. I spent the following year in a painful feedback loop of depression and despair. Every day, I would trudge into lab and try to get excited about my projects. But when I encountered minor hurdles such as a failed replication or contaminated samples, I would become discouraged and give up. Even when my experiments went smoothly, I felt guilty about the time I had wasted being unproductive. I knew I was struggling, but I didn’t ask for help. I thought I could deal with my state of mind just as I had dealt with every other problem in my life: Bottle up my emotions, attack the problem with logic, and iterate until I arrived at a solution.”

“Figure 1”: “Average statistical power from 44 reviews of papers published in journals in the social and behavioural sciences between 1960 and 2011. Data are power to detect small effect sizes (d=0.2), assuming a false-positive rate of α=0.05, and indicate both very low power (mean=0.24) but also no increase over time (R2=0.00097).”

Another problem that Smaldino and McElreath revealed is that sample sizes, which aid in drawing statistically sound conclusions, have not increased in size in the last 50 years.

Operation Midnight Climax of MKUltra: How the CIA tried to make their own assassins via mind control

By Penny Hoffmann

Out of fear for the chance that the KGB (the main security agency for the Soviet Union) would use LSD to drug U.S citizens via the water supply, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) bought every drop of it that existed at the time. The CIA allowed for the purchase of 10kg of pure LSD25 – enough to dose more than half of the population of the U.S.

The LSD was given to George Hunter White, an army captain, Office of Strategic Services Officer (OSS), and an undercover federal narcotics agent who worked for the CIA. White was a veteran agent of the Swiss company Sandoz Laboratories, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. He began dosing people to conduct experiments that attempted to create criminals, known as Manchurian Candidates, who commit what is requested of them but would have no recollection of doing so when the mind control affects wore off.

This mind control program is known as Midnight Climax – just one sub-project out of 140 under the clandestine operation MKUltra. The goal of MKUltra is to investigate how to control and reprogram the minds of people. The program lasted from the early 50’s to early 70’s.

White hid in a CIA safehouse stocked with alcohol and sat behind a two-way mirror. He paid prostitutes $100 a night with guaranteed protection from police harassment to lure men into the safe-house, who would then unknowingly consume liquor that had traces of mind-altering substances. White, while behind the mirror, would observe the subject’s reactions to the drug, record his findings, and forward them to the CIA.

The drug has two extremes; complete bliss, or deadly panic. However, what White did not know is that LSD provides the complete opposite effects when in regards to obeying authority. LSD causes subjects to question authority by freeing the mind. This drug created the counter-culture of the 1960’s.

Drugging, creating new identities through hypnosis, and other mind control methods such as signals that react to implants in the subject (usually located in the skull or back) were all projects that White and his associates tried to create, both for the subjects to do whatever was necessary and to pass lie detector tests.

“This photo, video or account does not violate our Community Guidelines”? Well, change your guidelines or practice what you preach, Instagram

By Penny Hoffmann

What do Instagram employees do to investigate whether content as serious as child pornography is evident? All it takes a lot of the time is a quick scroll through the account to see it.

If people who do not violate Instagram’s community guidelines get their content taken down (sometimes it happens quicker than other times), it makes one question whether staff – people or maybe even bots – should remain employed if they are not abiding by their job’s responsibilities.

Pedophile gangs and nearly anything you could think of are present on social media.

When their attempt to lure their victims into danger is successful, victims are manipulated or blackmailed into posing for and sending nudes.

The effects that pornography has on the human body can be seen here.

These can then be uploaded to Instagram, other social media platforms and elsewhere to please unjust criminals and others.

When this content is uploaded, the time it takes to investigate who is responsible and to take it down matters tremendously. The longer the content is kept up, the longer the victim and potential future victims do not receive justice and the longer these criminals do not receive proper help.

Everyday Instagrammers are resorting to putting their own lives on the line to war against this content.

One Instagrammer is @swat.captain__:

“Today i saw a child being raped and it took Instagram five hours to take it down after many reports.”

“Yesterday i saw videos of a child being beat. Instagram did nothing.”

Swat Captain recommends that more people are employed for Instagram to fight pornographic and violent content as, if bots are being used, they are not efficiently upholding Instagram’s community guidelines:

“Instagram uses bots to do their work i believe and i don’t blame them. There’s a ton of reports coming in all the time about this kind of stuff, but i’d say they should check pornography or violence reports because for some reason a machine can’t.”

Due to this Instagram account’s work, one pedophile will be meeting police in California instead of a little girl and her cousin.

It is advised that there is just parental or adult guidance when teenagers and children use social media. Many child manipulation cases are not reported to receive proper solutions. Parents can be perpetrators, thus making it difficult for teenagers and children to reach out.

Huge Twitter war after incident between Catholic MAGA hat pro-life kids and black Hebrew Israelites turns sour

By Penny Hoffmann

The image of Covington students and the school has been tarnished by the mainstream media. The Covington Catholic Diocese stands against the destruction of their reputation from the fake news reporting of the incident.

Covington students have received death threats and bomb threats against the school.

In a video of the interaction between black Hebrew Israelites and Covington students, Covington students were called “dirty ass crackers”, “child molester faggots”, “evil white racists” and “future school shooters”.

The media is and has been investigating and trying to expose the school. Media organisations, as well as famous celebrities and others, are desperately searching for any material that paints a negative image of the Covington boys.

Some media organisations have taken down their misleading articles about the situation, whilst others have not.

There is also an absence of an LGBT+ reaction regarding the black Hebrew Israelite who said homosexuals should not have rights.

Many prominent figures have been involved in a large Twitter brawl over the situation.

Some have even deleted their tweets and apologized for being misleading and inappropriate towards the students and school.

Here are some examples of the Twitter brawl:

Bishop Talbert Swan, a pastor, prelate, author, talk show host, and chaplain, says that being insulted by the Hebrew Israelites does not provide justification for the Covington students “harrassing the Native American”:

“Dirty-ass crackers”: What does the term “cracker” mean and where does it originate?

By Penny Hoffmann

Recently we have seen the term “cracker” used again by a black Hebrew Israelite during the recent scandal where Catholic MAGA hat pro-life teenagers were confronted by African Americans who are members of the Black Hebrew Israelites, a hate group that is becoming “more militant” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SLPC).

The SPLC states that “around the country, thousands of men and women have joined black supremacist groups on the extremist fringe of the Hebrew Israelite movement, a black nationalist theology that dates to the 19th century.”

The exact quote that was directed towards the mostly white pro-life protesters by one of the black Hebrew Israelites was “you got all these dirty-ass crackers behind you with a red Make America Great Again hat on.”

This occurred when when a pro-life protest which that featured Kentucky high school students who were waiting to catch a bus and collided with the Indigenous Peoples March outside the Lincoln Memorial.

So, what does the term “cracker” mean?

The Mirriam-Webster dictionary states that “cracker” can have an offensive meaning.  It can be “used as an insulting and contemptuous term for a poor, white, usually Southern person”. It can be used to describe “a native or resident of Florida or Georgia”. Thus, by this definition it is a racial term as it is specificially about whites, but by extension it is a classist term due to it regarding poor whites.

Dana Ste. Claire, a Floridian historian and anthropologist, wrote a book about this term. According to her, “cracker” first appeared in a play from around the 1590’s called “King John” that referred to Scots-Irish people who were deemed self-important and unpleasant:

“What craker is this same that deafs our ears with this abundance of superfluous breath?”

The term then followed Scots-Irish people when they immigrated to America.

In the late 1800’s, it was used to describe poor white American southerners. It is said that the term refers to these white people during the slave trade when they cracked whips to discipline slaves. Dana explains further that it is important to note that few poor white southerners owned slaves, but many condoned the slave trade in other ways, and that these poor white southerners would most-likely crack the whip over livestock in general.

In the 1940’s, “cracker” was used as a racial slur mainly by inner city black people who fled from north American racism to describe bigoted white people.

In more recent times, the term has expanded in it’s meaning by some people derogatorily to include any white person who, just by being white, threaten people of colour.

Fact or Fiction: A List of Conspiracies, Conspiracy Theories and Phrases Relating to Them

By Penny Hoffmann

Many people enjoy a thriller, some even a horror; but what if the same scenarios that cause us to sit on the edge of our seat, hold our breath, or cry silently or out loud encapsulate our reality?

“Waking up” from the lulling of society is gradual and heart-wrenching. It leads to one questioning academia, governments, figures, and much of what one was unaware of when travelling this path we call life. In a world full of deception and suffering, it can be difficult to distinguish between what is fact and what is fiction. Those who want to further deceit and suffering for their own personal gain will muddy the waters in an attempt to prevent truth seekers from discovering and sharing the treasure hidden deep beneath the surface. Sometimes this treasure is located in shallow water, but the only way to discover the depth of the deception is to inch in. Jumping is too risky depending on the muddiness. It could be fatal. When we explore, fufilling the curious nature of humanity, we strip ourselves of our assumptions and replace these with a solid foundation, altering much of our identity.

I have noticed that, when discussing conspiracies and conspiracy theories, the two phrases are sometimes mistakenly used interchangeably. There is a difference between conspiracies and conspiracy theories. When an event is classed as a conspiracy, it means it actually took place, whereas a conspiracy theory is exactly what it suggests; it is a theory. It has not been proven.

Some are so overwhelmed by the scale of knowledge they wonder where to start their research. To make this process easier, here is an exhaustive list of conspiracies, conspiracy theories, and relative phrases.

Who are the Baby Boomers and Other Generations?

By Penny Hoffmann

“Not those boomers again”. We often hear generational terms thrown about during discussions about, say, who is better. But who are these generations and what have they generally stood for?

A “generation”, according to Collins Dictionary, is “all the people in a group or country who are of a similar age, especially when they are considered as having the same experiences or attitudes.” Individually, not everyone completely matches the behavior of the generation they fall into, but on a collective scale generations have experienced similar trends at the same age period through similar channels (TV, radio, the internet, etc). These trends can predict the conduct of the generations. The three main trends that shape generations, according to The Center for Generation Kinetics, are parenting, technology and economics.

The following definitions of the generations regarding their birth period and current age are from Pew Research. Most of the findings specifically relates to the generations of the United States, however nations across the world do share similarities.

The Greatest Generation/Swing Generation:

The Greater Generation is born before 1928. In 2019, their age is between 92 and 104. Members constitute the teenagers during the Great Depression, and the fighters in World War Two.  The Greatest Generation can also be known as the Swing Generation due to the upsurge in Jazz music.

The Silent Generation:

The Silent Generation is born between 1928 and 1945. Their age in 2019 is between 74 and 91. This generation was too young to see World War Two, but too old to be a part of the Summer of Love. The idea that following the rules would lead to success was generally accepted amongst this generation.

The Baby Boom Generation:

The Baby Boom generation is born between 1946 and 1964. Their age in 2019 is between 55 and 73.  The term “Baby Boomer” is used because after World War Two there was an economic boom and birth rates increased dramatically in America, though baby booms around the world also occurred during the same period in some western industrialized nations such as Canada, New Zealand, and Iceland, who had higher peak fertility rates than the United States. According to Encyclopedia.com, “936 of 75.8 children per 1,000 women of childbearing age to a high of 122.7 in 1957—and then fell to a new all-time low of 65.0 in 1976”. The baby boom occurred because there was a sharp decline in the number of women choosing to remain childless – not a grow in family size -,  many births were put off until after the Depression and World War Two, and, contrary to the upward trend before the baby boom, younger women chose to stay at home and have and raise children instead of participating in the labor force, which lasted for approximately 20 years. This generation grew up with the civil rights movement, Woodstock, the Vietnam war and rock and roll. As a parenting trend, Baby Boomers generally desired to make life easier for their children due to what they themselves had experienced growing up.

Generation X/Baby Busters:

Generation X is born between 1965 and 1980, making their age in 2019 between 39 and 54. This generation was originally called the “Baby Busters” because birth rates decreased after the Baby Boomer generation. Some economists have suggested that this is partially because, when male income rises, the chance of having children increases due to stability, and when a woman’s income increases, the chance of having more and children in general decreases as she spends more time in the labor market than caring for her children. Economists have provided a third factor; that of the standard of living. As teens, this generation experienced the AIDS epidemic and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The Millennial Generation:

Millennials are born between 1981 and 1997. Thus, their age in 2019 is between 22 and 38 years. Millennials are the largest generation in the U.S workforce and the fastest-growing generation of customers in the workplace. This generation experienced the rise of the internet, so it was understood what life was like before and after the introduction of the internet.

The Post Millennial Generation/ Generation Z:

Generation Z is born from 1997 onward, placing them as working age adults between 18 and 22 years of age in 2019. It has been said that Generation Z is and will greatly affect present ideas regarding parenting, education, employment, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, politics, religion, and more. Not much is known about this generation due to how new it is, but it is the first generation that is born with internet.

The Effects of Pornography on the Human Body

By Penny Hoffmann

As No-Nut-November has passed and the end of this year births a new one (new year new me, am i right), it is important to discuss the effects that pornography has on the human body.

The internet powerfully influences its viewers, whether it be through social media or search engine results.

Psychologist Susan Weinschenk states that the neurochemical “dopamine causes us to want, desire, seek out, and search,” and that opioid receptors cause the feeling of pleasure. When it comes to addiction, “the dopamine system is stronger than the opioid system… we seek more than we are satisfied.”

One thing that has become easier to access is pornography. Viewing pornography is like a drug; it can lead to an addiction, and what gives you a dopamine kick the first time is not enough the next time, and thus how much content that is required to grant dopamine increases over time.

This excess release of dopamine results in an accumulation of Delta-FosB, which is a molecular switch. All addictions require Delta-FosB. This accumulation causes brain alterations and promotes a cycle of binging and craving. One suffers from increased craving but a numbed pleasure response. Everyday pleasures do not satisfy the person anymore. The more addicted one is to pornography the more extreme forms of pornography one craves, as shock, surprise or anxiety can elevate dopamine levels, and the more one thinks about pornography. Some people report experiencing a rush, rapid heartbeat, or even trembling when they think about viewing the content. In short, dysfunctional prefrontal circuits, or a chemical imbalance, results in a tug-of-war-like feeling.

A study (Seok and Sohn, 2018) found that sex addicts (those who display “problematic hypersexual behaviour”) had grey matter deficits in their temporal cortex. Gray matter is responsible for brain synapses, which is the transfer of information from one cell to another. The temporal cortex is the part of the brain that handles vision, memory, sensory input, language, emotion, and comprehension.

Poorer functional connectivity between the temporal cortex and precuneus and caudate was also present in the addicts. The precuneus is responsible for tasks such as visuo-spatial imagery, episodic memory retrieval and self-processing operations, whilst the caudate is a feedback processor, meaning it is responsible for storing and remembering past experiences and using them to influence future decisions.

When scientists examined former internet pornography addicts they discovered these brain changes were reversing themselves.

A survey done by the Italian Society of Andrology and Sexual medicine in 2011 states that internet porn is killing young men’s sexual performance. Number brains are sending weaker signals to reproductive organs and over time it becomes impossible to achieve erections.

It takes young men 4-5 months to recover from porn-induced erectile dysfunction, compared to 2 months for older men. The reason it takes longer for younger men is because they were not involved with the type of pornography that exists today: internet porn. Also, young men are at their peak dopamine levels and neuroplasticity, and are the most vulnerable to addiction.

In “ Neuroscience of Internet Pornography Addiction: A Review and Update (Love et al., 2015)” a thorough review of the neuroscience literature relating to internet addiction sub-types (including internet pornography), it is stated that “many recognize that several behaviors potentially affecting the reward circuitry in human brains lead to a loss of control and other symptoms of addiction in at least some individuals. Regarding Internet addiction, neuroscientific research supports the assumption that underlying neural processes are similar to substance addiction… Within this review, we give a summary of the concepts proposed underlying addiction and give an overview about neuroscientific studies on Internet addiction and Internet gaming disorder. Moreover, we reviewed available neuroscientific literature on Internet pornography addiction and connect the results to the addiction model. The review leads to the conclusion that Internet pornography addiction fits into the addiction framework and shares similar basic mechanisms with substance addiction.”

The Battle Fought By Australia’s Soldiers During WW1

By Penny Hoffmann

Through statistics, technology, psychology, citizens reactions, and personal accounts, the reality of World War One is defined. It has been one hundred and four years since its beginning, and throughout those years the truth and of the war in general public conversation has been partially lost.

From April to July 1915, the number of people enlisting to fight in World War One increased exponentially. The monarchy was calling for unification, and patriotism was encouraged as seen in propaganda posters. Too many tried to enlist, thus many were turned back.

The first attempt of legalising conscription was narrowly defeated. Then, after July 1915, enlistment numbers dropped dramatically due to the large scale of casualties from war. This discouraged those initially wanting to enlist and there were less men able to fight because they had died.

Before repatriation, of the 331,000 who served overseas, 61,720 were killed and 155,000 were wounded. Of the 272,000 who returned, 170,000 suffered from wounds or illness from the war. 3,300 returned without arms of limbs.

Then, the second attempt of conscription occurred due to the number of casualties. Australia needed replacements, but conscription was defeated more than the first attempt. 70-80,000 soldiers received a full or part repatriation pension. Over 38,000 ex-servicemen died between 1918 and 1933, and right up to the Second World War, two to three ex-servicemen were dying every day. This is a byproduct of the unhygienic and highly stressful environment in the trenches as their feet were constantly wet, regular sighting of dead or dismembered bodies, the sound of their mates dying, and disease. There are 23,000 missing soldiers.

The war of 1917 resulted in the greatest technological and medical advancements to combat many types of wounds, but specifically head wounds. Because of how quickly someone can die from wounds to such a sensitive area, the medical team were located as close to the war-front as possible.

Teams were efficient with handling approximately twelve severe head wounds during twelve hours on duty that in total, two hundred and twenty to two hundred and fifty patients could be served a day. Confusion, signs of mental and physical exhaustion, acute fears, phobias, amnesia, tremor, deafness, speechlessness, visual defects and others were just some of the other issues the medical team dealt with.

The stressful war environment altered the soldiers for life and reprogrammed many into war machines, even during the repatriation process. Some were more dangerous than others to themselves or other people. Domestic violence, alcohol addictions, suicide or suicidal thoughts, shame, and labels were byproducts of the shift of environment from warzones to normal life, and many of these byproducts were due to the difficult healing process of the transition.

Consulting surgeon Sir William Arbuthnot Lane stated that “nothing was more painful than the sense of loneliness of those mutilated, since these deformities repelled even their wives and children. I understand that many, faced with the horror of the situation, committed suicide.”

An author states that “the peace following a war is worse than the war… when they returned to peace, as when they had gone to war, the soldiers were asked to adapt to accustomed ways. But the war had taught them a new system of values – mateship, the worth of the individual, courage, humor, straightforward action, generosity, determination, integrity and patriotism – which they could not easily apply to peace… it seemed to some that the war in Europe had created ‘a nation within a nation’ in the far antipodes”.
