Eight people were killed and a dozen more were injured Tuesday in a terrorist attack when a Jihadist in a rented pickup truck deliberately drove down a bike path in lower Manhattan and mowed down several people before crashing into a school bus. Officials said it was a terrorist attack – possibly the deadliest in New York City since 9/11.

The Islamic State terrorist hopped out of the truck and shouted “Allahu Akbar” before firing a BB or pellet gun, four senior law enforcement sources told NBC News. Law enforcement sources said he left a note in the truck specifying that he committed the attack for the Islamic State.

A witness, who gave his name as Frank, told local TV network NY1 that he had seen a man running around the area and that he heard five to six gunshots.  “I saw he had something in his hand, but I couldn’t tell what it was. But they said that it was a gun… When the cops shot him, everybody started running away and it got a little bit crazy right there. So when I tried to look again, the guy was already down.”

The Terrorist has been identified as Sayfullo Saipov, a ‘refugee’ who came to the US in 2010 and had apparently settled in Florida.

President Trump tweeted after the attack:

Many are startled by the recent events and leads some to ask how this happened in the first place and how Saipow managed to arrive in the US with no background checks. The question is how we stop an attack like this happening ever again?
